Guinness Custom T-shirt Winners

This month we had a lovely visit from the Guinness custom t-shirt competition winners!

The staff at the Guinness Storehouse took part in a company wide competition to design a new Guinness custom T-shirt. Two lucky winners were chosen. Part of the prize was getting to pop into our design office on Merrion Square to watch our designers bring their illustrations to life on screen. We we’re joined by the two design competition winners, a the retail buyer, a retail store manager and team leader.

Guinness Custom T-shirt Winners: The Visit

The Storehouse staff spent the morning meeting with our team of buyers and designers to talk all things Guinness clothing. Which ended up being a very interesting swap of information. In particular, speaking to the Guinness Staff who work on the shop floor. The people who sell our designs every day. The staff also had a chance to look at rough drafts and the overall design process for past and current Guinness ranges. As well as a top secret peak at some garments that haven’t even been released yet.

(Exciting!! – Watch this space for when those will be launched…)

GUINNESS CUSTOM T-SHIRT COMPETITON WINNERS MEETING WITH OUR DESIGNERS

Guinness Custom T-shirt Winners: The Design Process

Later on in the day, our designers got to show off the full design process, building assets based on the competition winners illustrations. The winners had creative control  over the t-shirt base, colours and positioning. They then watched as our designers took their final design and created the files for the screen printing process. These files are called separations. They involve isolating each colour from a print design. This is done so that our printers can transfer the design onto t-shirts through a process called screen printing.

While this was going on, our other designers discussed other Guinness Clothing Projects, signage and events. Swapping ideas and opinions on recent and upcoming clothing launches.

The staff and our designers really enjoy this collaborative experience.

Guinness Custom T-shirt Winners: What’s next?

Next the winners will be visiting our screen printers in Newbridge, County Kildare. Newbridge look after our printed garments. Especially T-shirts, hoodies and tote bags. Here the staff will see their designs printed and get to see behind the scenes of our printing and distribution process.

Final Thoughts

This experience was a fun change of pace. Getting to discuss ideas and hearing some external opinions is so beneficial. Particularly for designing clothing. Taking part in events like this helps us to grow!
